WHAT ARE CANNABINOIDS?
The active chemical components of Cannabis are called cannabinoids. There are many different types of cannabinoids in the cannabis plant which have a significant effect on the human body as they possess medicinal properties. Cannabinoids produced by the cannabis plant through its flowers, mimic naturally occurring compounds produced in the human body known as endocannabinoids which maintain and activate internal balance and overall health.
When cannabinoids are consumed, they bind to the most common receptor sites throughout the brain and body known as CB1 and CB2 within the endocannabinoid system (ECS) . The cannabinoid receptors play an important role in communicating changes at the cellular level, and initiating action for the appropriate cellular response.
The CB1 receptor is primarily located in the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. The CB2 receptor is primarily located in the body, in places such as the immune system.
